The astronaut Alan Shepard sure knew what he was doing when he selected the land and built this lovely home as a vacation get-away for his family. It has, without a doubt, one of the most breathtaking views in all of Lakeway. Here, it’s all about lake and sky. Walls of Windows and sliding glass doors run the entire length of the lake side of the house, and open onto an 85-ft long deck. From there, as well as from kitchen, dining room, living room, master bedroom, master bath, and guest room you will have glorious 180-degree views of the main basin of Lake Travis with its beautiful sunrises, breathtaking sunsets, and NO WEST SUN!! All four bedrooms have their own private bath and are conveniently located on the main floor. The two secondary bedrooms that don’t have lake views do have something just as serene. They both open onto a small courtyard and Japanese garden with a pond and pergola. Downstairs is a large game/media room, a 5th full bath, and a sauna (the very same one Alan Shepard used to relax and unwind after a day on the lake with his family or a golf outing with friends). When the current owners began renovations, their challenge was to bring the house into the 21st century without sacrificing the integrity of the original classic 1970 design.
